My water has developed a haze overnight. All my parameters are great, all the fish and inverts are healthy, and nothing has changed in the tank. Could it be an algal bloom? I've noticed an increase in green algae over the past week or so. (The algae is only on the live rock, and is a dark green with the lights off. With the lights on, it's almost invisible.)

The tank is 30gal with 150W MH 5hrs daily.

I filled up a filter sock with carbon, but it's had no affect in the past 12 hours. I don't think carbon would have any affect on an algal/bacterial bloom, but I figured it wouldn't hurt.

Tank that young is likely still getting situated. I'd say it's more than likely going through an algal/diatom bloom. Do you have a fuge on the tank. If so, what's in it. Also, are you dosing anything? If so, what? Any fish or inverts in the tank?

Yes, refugium with 6in DSB and 10 mangroves; no macros. Not dosing anything. Mystery wrasse, flame angel, yellowhead jawfish, two-spot blenny, yellow watchman goby, and a big CUC (Galveston hermits, porcelain crabs, peppermint and grass shrimp).

Thanks for the help.

The water has cleared up quite a bit, but still has a very slight cloudiness. Fish are all still healthy and eating well. I think the green algae just exploded. The tank had a brown algae bloom about 3wks ago, though it didn't cloud the water.

Sounds like it could be possible that you have a case of TMTSS ~to much to soon syndrome~ lol (kidding about the syndrome but serious about the situ)

When I got my 50 gallon tank set up, I had the same problem. I put my octopus in it to quickly I think and didnt give the tank the slow build up (bacteria) you're supposed to. I never "really" knew what it was, but it stopped after a week or so. I think your tank is just adjusting to the animals waste and trying to find a balance.

Be prepared... more algae coming your way. I would start adding macro like crazy or you could have a GIANT mess on your hands.

Of course it could be something else, this is just my guess.
