I have had my yellow tang almost two months now, and my Clarkii clown still won't stop obsessively harassing him and ripping his tail. I was wondering if anyone has ever taken an aggressive clown out of the tank for a month or so, put it back in, and had it behave better. I've seen on this forum people have tried it with tangs with mixed results, but I don't know about clowns.

The trick is catching him. He is fiendishly clever and has never gone into a trap. He has now learned that a net can still chase him in the anemones, so he goes deep into the rocks when I try to catch him.

I haven't taken clowns out from the tank to reintroduce them, but that did work with a tang for me.

Have you tried taping a small mirror against the glass?

I took mine out and sold it her. She was very aggressive, I distracted her with one hand which she tried to attack so she did not see the net coming up behind her.

Wow, mine is not quite that aggressive. Maybe I could get a plastic yellow tang and put it in the trap.

I caught him tonight. After the lights had been off for a while, I put a headlamp on that has a red LED. While the clown was happily sleeping in the anemone, I put a big fishing net over the nems, clown, and rock, then took an aquarium net from below and scooped him up. It was like taking candy from a baby. He's in an acclimation box in the big tank now, but later I will put him in a QT tank where he can't even see his territory.

Having that same issue with my clown. He's been a medium sized single clown, so I don't know if it's a female., I've put it in QT tank hoping to add additional tank mates and will introduce him/her later. I'll probably move the rocks around every 3-4 days until I'm ready to introduce it.
