:? Is there anything I need to know about a co2 regulator when looking for one for my new calcium reactor?

Milwaukee.

Stay away from the Reef Fanatic one. The solenoid is giving me trouble and I'm moving to the Milwaukee solenoid.

You don't need a bubble counter if you have one on your calcium reactor body already.

Also, don't forget the CO2 tubing and _high-quality_ CO2 check valve. You need CO2 tubing not normal tubing (which can lose CO2 through it's membrane).

I have the Reef Fanatic. I haven't hooked my calcium reactor up yet, bu tafter reading several reviews it was the 2nd highest rated one behind the one jdeveaux linked to. Mine came in a package deal with my Geo reactor and is why I didn't pursue the one from aquariumplants. If you go to marine depot or premium aquatics you will read of all the people that have problems with the milwaukee and that is what kept me away from it. If I remember correctly it had something to do with the needle valve.

I can really only go by my own experience. My own Reef Fanatic solenoid continues to require a light "tapping" to get it to click on. I took it to Kevin at All About Fish and he told me that a lot of people bring him Reef Fanatic solenoids. He recommended milwaukee.

I am talking about the solenoid only though. The rest of the regulator (inc. the needle valve) haven't given me a problem.

jdeveaux: I haven't had a calcium reactor for long so I don't know too much but I always thought that bubble count wasn't so important in a pH-controlled system. That is to say, whether you have 10 bubbles-per-second or 30 bubbles-per-second, the solenoid opens for a set "high" pH and stays open until until a set "low" pH. In your experience, to what degree does bubble count precision matter?

I have to say that the AquariumPlants unit looks good though simply as a high-quality alternative to a solenoid. From what I have been reading, solenoids fail all over the place left and right.

Wow Thank you guys for all your help.

Grrr this reactor makes it really hard to do things on a budget.

I am sure I will have more questions as i get this going!

Yeah it gets expensive. Do you have a single/dual chamber reactor???

I'm using all Red Sea components on my calcium reactor.

Single. I got one of the cheaper ones on the market that had pretty good reviews. I wanted to try it out and learn to use it, then drop the bucks and get a much better one like I did my skimmer. Looks like I will have to pony up from the get go...lol oh well... I will just continue saving and keep doing my 2 part additive until then.
