Collecting from a boat in Galveston (1 Viewer)

Has anyone ever tried collecting from a boat when the sargassum comes into galveston? I want to try it out and see if I can come up with a sargassum trigger or some a sargassum angler. Plus I am sure there are lots of other cool things that could show up.

I have a boat but I am not really sure where to start.

Also once the fishing season gets going I go out a lot and Hank comes with me frequently but if anybody else wants to go just let me know I am willing to take ya'll out there with me if you like.

Its nothing big so I usually take no more than 4 people fishing at a time but it is a lot of fun. We go out to the end of the jetty to fish for Bull Reds and smaller sharks and we go out 3-5 miles and fish for bigger sharks. I have had this boat in Virginia Beach for a couple years so last season was my first fishing down here so I am still learning the good spots around galveston.

Sounds like an adventure. I'll gladly show ya a few holes. We can load up your boat and mine, I can carry 4 people easy. Let's start plannin Kemah, good fishin is right around the corner. And BTW, when the sargassum is on the beach heavy, about 5 to 10 miles out ther are giant mats of it. It is unbelievable the abundance and diversity of life in and around them.

Sounds good we will have to set some trips up I need to go register my boat down here. I was good last season but my virginia registration ran out so I plan on doing it next week.

Also Another idea that I had for a big group function was doing a family picnic/ beach shark fishing trip (maybe contest). I did alot of reading about surf fishing for sharks last year and it souds like a lot of fun also.

But anyways as soon as I get the boat registered and my yearly motor service done I will let ya'll know and we can start going out.

Cliner- I would love it if you could show me a few good holes in the area.

Cool so it looks like there are a lot of people who want to go fishing. We will definitely have to set up some trips with multiple boats but I will also let you guys know when I am going out so if you are free you can come with. Last year I was going out 2-5 times a week. So we should be able to get lots of fishing in.

In Sept I was collecting pipe fish right off the beach in S Padre. Didn't see any other fish though.

I didn't keep any, but I found probably 10-15 in a single afternoon.

I have my own offshore boat. when the weater is right we go up to 100 miles out not often though. snorkling is the best way to find the sarg. anglers and sea horses, I never keep them I don't have the right tank setup for them, Have seen some cool triggers though
