Be careful out there. Just read on the news a man went out into the water at Crystal Beach for 5min to get his grandkids out. He had a mosquito bite on his leg and a flesh eating bacteria entered his body through it. Been through two surgeries, still not sure if his leg will be saved.

The bacteria has been there for a very long time. Ive heard those stories pop up every few years. Never heard a mosquito bite though, mostly its been cuts.

If they are red, its probably those sargassum shrimp. I caught a ton of those last time we went.

The best way to catch some really cool stuff IMO is by cast net.

Find the nearest boat ramp by ocean. You would be surprised what hangs around a boat ramp.

I've caught some really cool fish, shrimp, puffers, etc...in the boat ramps.

What about the marshes? Figured you could catch some cool things there too.

Ive done a lot of cast netting in galveston (school there for four years) and marshes are fantastic.
Best thing is a seine net. Any marsh area in galveston or even under the bridges like going to Pelican Island (where TAMUG is) are fantastic spots for it. Coolest thing we caught were some cuttlefish.
