Copepods so what do you think do you use them for food, Detritus, Diatoms or other? (1 Viewer)

I have used them for all and have had great results. One of my first fish I ever had was a Mandarin loved him and had to learn to keep pods for him to eat. I noticed over time that my tanks seemed to be in great shape when I added them. Now BRS has done a whole series about them. I wanted to know how everyday reefers and fish keepers feel about them.

Thanks for your time.

I started adding them after the brs series. Did not notice an improvement in tank overall but fish sure seem happier. So i add a bottle of tisbe or tiger every few months. About once a year will add the eco pods from algae barn

Tosbe just food, kinda kinda like amphipods , lots of shell not much nutrition. Bit the small guys the do most the work and keep the microfauna and micro biome fed.

Tigriopus, Tisbe and Apocyclops has been known to be one of the best seeding mixes to get for your tank. Seeding your tank before you get those finicky fish like Mandarin’s and Wrasses I feel is essential to their success in your reef tank.

Oithona and Euterpina are some of the lesser known copepods but are just as important to your reef tank eco-system. So with my experience we used to get them on our live rock and that would help establish the colonies in our tanks.

Now with the cost of live rock out of reach for the everyday reefer. I feel you need to add them all to get the diversity you used to get with live rock.

I see tiny white ones on the glass every once in a while. Look like white dots but then it starts moving lol. What I would like to add are some, often overlooked, amphipods.

I do add pods every three or four months.
