I will be going on a scuba diving trip for 4 days in Florida starting Thursday and I was just curious if anyone knew the coral gathering laws there. I heard that soft corals were ok but hard corals are protected. is that true? if anyone has any input it would be appreciated.

Being a diver, I frown on messing with the natural reefs in general. I am sure there are safe ways to do it that doesn't hurt the reef but the average person shouldn't do it in my opinion.

I spoke with Richard and he did tell me that it's not ok to collect coral anywhere in Florida. he did however say we could go with them and do a little gathering at his part of the ocean. unfortunatly we won't be in the Tampa area or that would be awesome. he did say that the Panama City area we will be in has a good lion fishing spot. so we will be bringing the spear guns!!!
