Has anyone else noticed the outrageous prices on these Bali aquacultured corals? Is it me or does $100-175 seem a lot for a 1-1/2" mounted frag? True some are 3" but they are common corals like millipora or loripes. Lord knows I have dropped some serious cash on corals before. But those were actually rare and usually large in size. The real sad part is every online vendor has these corals, lots of them. Bali is flooding the market with these corals and reefkeepers are like a 5 year old in a candy store. Isn't it amazing how people flock to something new in masses to be one of the first to say "Hey look at me!". In time I suppose that these new aquacultured corals will be common and prices will drop like they always do.

I guess I just miss the days when you only spent your kids college money on the hobby. Now you have to take out a 2nd mortgage and keep two full time jobs. I don't know about you but I am thinking of having more kids so I can put them to work also. I wouldn't want to miss out on those NEW, ULTRA RARE, EXOTIC, LIMMITED, ONE OF KIND, NEVER SEEN THESE BEFORE, GET THEM WHILE YOU CAN.....flat worms.

Yes it is steep. But what can you do these days? If you want something, you have to grab it or it will dissapear into someone else's hands. Then you will never get started into SPS. ;) Luckily there are LFS's who carry SPS. I remember a few months ago when Global had the best shipments of SPS. My tank wasnt ready then and didnt want to sarcrifice loosing corals.. but now I am. Anyhow.. its not as bad as the Purple Monster frag! People are buying a frag of that for $450!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That was what the latest auction went up too. One guy bought the same frag for $300 elsewhere and he just had his tank up for about a month or so. I think he said it was his first SPS piece. wow!

It certainly is not like the old days and by that I mean even a couple of years ago. Big colonies never more than $50-60 bucks. And they were nice stuff. Now that won't get you a frag of a frag of a frag of a frag.

I was talking to John of exoticreefs yesterday and he says he can get frags in from 2-3 people he sells them for and be absolutely inudated with emails. He says he can sell them all over night. He actually said that he is getting burned out already and he hasn't been in business that long.

Someone actually asked me if I saw that auction thing and that is insane. There has to be some logic thrown in here somewhere. A month old tank with a PM that cost $300., what a waste.

There is more than 1 of every coral coming in to these online vendors too. If one doesn't have it then the next will. You need to get hooked up with the right folks. :D

Already getting burned out? jeez. That didnt take long. But I guess I can understand from a business prespective. You get irate and picky customers who dont have a clue what their doing. Not only that, it takes a lot of work getting all those corals out to so many customers.

John has got to the hardest working guy in the saltwater biz. He has a day job, is now a rep. for Deltec products{skimmers, reactors etc.}, the frags and a family. He isn't giving exoticreefs up just taking a break.

Thursday, the day he sent my frags out he had 12 other boxes to be sent.

I used to send out a lot of frags, I know how long it takes to pack them and pack them right.
