Hello,dear reefers.
Just want to see if anyone got corals growing on the overflow box and got any picture of it. I want to grow some corals on it, but looking for ideas and type of corals to grow on the overflow.

I've experimented with this. Encrusters that grow vertically don't seem to love it. They just don't get the light intensity they want. But it works. I have 3 different montipora actively encrusting onto the plastic

I had a rock with the purple based green star polyps on it that was leaning against my overflow in my 210 gallon. After a bit my overflow was almost completely cover with it.

Yeah, it takes off. I love the way it looks too. I think it will sting other corals so I'm just trying to grow mine on the overflow box for color contrast.

There's another purple tiny flower looking thing that looks awesome on rocks, but it will choke out corals. Spreads like wild fire.

I think Jason on here is having issues with it right now. Maybe he can chime in. His board name is jlord1 I believe. Not sure.

Their is also the daisy coral or I think that is what Otis call that is pink flower look with green in the middle where the blades me. That stuff will go like crazy and will attach a flat surface.

I was going to try this with the blue Sympodium I have. Does it work well? I'm actually breaking down my tank to upgrade to a bigger and may try this on the next tank. I have a small colony for sale if anyone is interested.

Thanks,

Stephen

Does this count or is it considered cheating since I didn't plant it there?

It is an automatic disqualification 😉

Looks stunning!! I bet it is even better looking in person too 😀

I've had green digi's, purple palys, and red monti caps growing on my overflows over the years. The green digi's literally grew out the top of the tank. The purple palys turned into a problem however. The higher polyps would shade out the lower polyps, which would then detach themselves and then go free-floating all over the tank. I ended up with purple paly colonies in places I didn't want them.

Here's a pic (from a long time ago...)

good luck,
Steve
