While searching for a cleaner shrimp I put in my tank a couple weeks ago(a whole story by itself) I saw a strange critter and was hoping someone might know what this thing is by description. I was using my flash light to search the cracks and corners and saw what looked like a tiny elephant trunk duck into a rock when the light hit it. I waited a few minutes and returned to the area where I saw it and there is was again. It was stretching out from the rock to the surface of another rock. It was gray and translucent and looked just like a tiny elephant's trunk. It even had a hole on the end and appeared to be sucking stuff off the surface of the rock. It would get its TRUNK full and suck back a little to swallow? :? Then it began reaching around again until it had a snot full and withdrew to swallow again. This critter kept this up until I shined the light directly at it again. When the light hit it the critter would pull back into the rock FAST.

WHAT IS THIS THING? Is it bad? Should I buy peanuts? :bullwhip:

As far as the shrimp I did catch a glimpe of his antenna wiggling around behind a rock. So he lives. He is being stingy with the appearances but lives. :-x

I have these in my tank. They are some type of worm, had them for years. I just consider them natural members of my CUC.

+1 to cliner

I have these in my tank and they are harmless filter feeders.

Hey! I'm the one with the bobbit worm. We had a talk over the weekend, and he agreed not to kill anything in the tank if I agreed not to catch and/or kill him. I think we're gonna work it out.

I still think it is a Johnny Holmes worm 8)

Can you imagine what a Johnny Holmes worm would do if it ran into a Bobbit? Run I suspect - ok wiggle away then...
