Has anyone here had to remove the center vertical brace between the doors on your aquarium stand? I want to change out the sump on my running Oceanic 75 and need to get that brace out of the way to do this. I think that the weight of the tank is based on the ends and corner posts and that this post is just for looks...... :? :? :? :-o

i would NOT recommend cutting out that brace. If you need to change out your sump, you might want to consider draining your tank and moving it to get at the sump. If you cut that brace, your tank will want to go farward due to the lack of support.

And there's no way to put in supplemental bracing while the change happens? I was planning on the supplemental bracing and then putting a new brace back in the old position after swapping out sumps...........

I think this might be helpful. It's from marc levenson's page (melev on RC) where he describes the installation of a sump. just scroll down a few pages to the pics of the stand being braced. Pretty neat way of doing it, and it doesn't require draining the tank.

Cool. Now that's what I was talking about. Good link. I might still drain the tank to about 6" to take some of the weight off front while I swap out sumps.

Good news. After some deft (and lucky) maneuvers, I managed to swap out the sumps without cutting anything. Thanks for the advice.

Just for what it's worth in the future...you can take out the center brace without any ill effects. I did it when I put in my sump and still have it open so that I can get access. All I did was install a header inside the stand across the opening and then cut out the brace. It is still just like that with the use of the full opening making it easier to get access to all components in the sump.

pesos for thought...
