I read that "money snails" will eat Cyano. WolfReef on MAAST.org sells them! If you think about making a order from Him I would like to some of these snails myself, I think they look pretty cool!

The best way to manage cyano is to keep the protien levels low (good skimmer) in your tank and redirect flow from returns and power heads to minimize low flow areas where cyano can colonize.

I have an aqua C remora on my 20 gal. And i keep getting a patch from one place to another. It seems to move. Right now it is on the sand. I syphoned out what i could the last water change when it was in the spot on the wall. Any suggestions as to what i should do now that it is on the sand? My tank has been up since may and i heard it is normal to go through an small outbreak of it.

queen conchs? mine never ate cyano

Neither has my fighting conch. Ive heard both claims from many people, but in my experience there arent many animals that munch on cyano. I have heard positive experiences with red legged hermits however. Anyone know if sea hares might eat it? Personally, I would use either Chemiclean or Poly Ox. Just remember, youre only addressing a symptom, not the problem. Nutrient export is crucial to success. Do you keep a fuge and skimmer?

I run a skimmer but my fuge doesnt have any macro in it.

I went a few weeks without a water change because i didnt have any money, so my cyano just grew from the nutrient build up. I am in the process of getting some macro however. I had been putting that off for a while now.

If left to its own devices, cyano can quickly get out of control and begin to grow on corals. The sooner you get rid of it, the healthier your tank will be. I would get tons of macro (assorted types), and immediately follow up with an RODI water change. Then I would remove any carbon that you might be running, and use either Chemi clean or Poly Ox (as directed). I would gently remove any excess cyano daily, until the macro have the nutrients under control. Just be vigilant. And make sure you have good flow in all areas of the tank - detritus and other organic matter will help fuel cyano growth. Good luck.

I am trying to figure out what a cheap recommended light to use with my AC500 would be. I kinda wanted something that would clip on. Any ideas?

Red Sea makes two different types of clip on lights that I know of. They have the Red Sea Deco Art Aqualight that comes with a 9 watt power compact bulb but can be replaced with a 13 watt power compact. They also have the Red Sea Deco Art Dragonfly that has a 7 watt power compact bulb. I think both lights retail for around 20 bucks or so.

there is only a few reef safe creatures that I know of that eats Cyano. The Mexican red-legged hermit (Clibanarius digueti) it is probably the best thing to use. Also Cerith snails (Cerithium strercusmuscarum) will eat Cyano. I recommend never using chemicals in your aquarium. If nature doesnt need them, than why do you?
