Ok! I got my mini-chiller today and that's the last piece I needed to set up my tank. As soon as I find someone to help me build up the stand I have for it, I'm gonna fill it with water. Yipee! Tank #2 is almost a reality!!!

I'm planning on a bag of live sand and a couple of pieces of live rock to start. Any other thoughts on what I should put in the tank to cycle it aside from damsels?

If you get live rock from the lfs then most likely it will cycle the tank for you. If not put in a table shrimp and it will cycle the tank as it breaks down.

when I started my frag tank I placed the caulerpa in on say day 3 or 4 and the stuff just took off. I have yet to have an algae outbreak other than the usual stuff on the glass. I placed several hermits and astrea snails in the tank as well and it is all doing great. I did put about 3 lbs of live sand in the tank as well as a few lbs of cured live rock rubble. I am on week 4 I think and have already had to prune the caulerpa back as it was taking over. Hope that helps.

With a tank that small don't worry about forcing a cycle. Fill it with cured live rock and water from your established tank. Wait one week and you can start adding things SLOWLY. :D

water from my 150? Never thought of that.

This must be the ONLY use for recycling tank water after a partial water change!

Reminds me of a funny story... I had just gotten grass to grow in my backyard (lots of trees and shade) when I decided to drain my 55 via a hose into the yard and switch over to fresh water for a while, not realizing that salt water kills grass.

Never got grass to grow back there again. Fortunately, I've now decked it and put a new garage up where I put all that salt water.
