I give up on the stupid egg crate. My flame wrasse made the leap of faith. I'm going to order the BRS screen, any suggestions on what i need to do? 5'x2' tank w/ no center brace.

Should I build something to handle my frozen feedings? I'm assuming my autofeeder's pellets will fall right through the 1/4" holes. Any other suggestions? How do you handle the powerheads in your tank's power cords? Thanks in advance.

Aluminum screen frame should work fine. Putting a small strip of acrylic along one side (and making the aluminum frame a little shorter than full coverage) makes it easy to cut any small holes needed for power cords in it without altering the screen. Others may have some more suggestions on power cords though. Sorry to hear about the flame wrasse :(

Not with the BRS screen. It doesn't affect light much at all since its a thin transparent grid. Not sure how the screen would do close to MH but its been fine close to my T5 fixture, no loss of tension or stretching at all.

Thanks for the advice. I guess i'll go ahead and place the order. Once i see the frame, if it's thick enough, i'll just dremel a piece out for powerhead cords and such. and lift the lid up during feedings.

The BRS tops are great! Are you eurobraced or rimless? If eurobraced just lay your panels on top of the eurobracing and you'll be fine. I'd use velcro tabs on the corners if rimless. When feeding pellets I just throw it through the netting with no problem at all-same with flake. When feeding frozen I just lift one of the panels off and set it on another one, feed, then put it back. They are super light and easy to work with. Easy to build too (I used a jigsaw vs a hacksaw). I've got one of the rollers here you're more than welcome to borrow if you want to save a little $.

Reeftopia - How high above the top are your halides? I would not worry about light loss at all; as tektite mentioned the material is both thin and transparent.

I use three panels (eurobraced 180) with my return coming over the back of the tank in the center. I cut through both the back brace and screen material of the screen top to allow for the pipe work. This makes one of the back pieces a little wonky when lifting but when I lay it on the eurobracing it regains it rigidity and works perfectly. It's not pretty but I have a canopy and it's what I had to do. If you don't think you'll be lifting off the screens a lot you could always just cut a hole in the back through the netting and thread the head of the plug though that. This would keep you from having to notch the trim. With that said, I think if you're careful you could probably notch the product just enough get a cord through and still have it lay flat

i went ahead and ordered the 5' kit from brs. Thinking one large piece would be best. My tank is basically just a thick glass tank. no center brace, not rimless. I run 3 halides (soon to be 2 halides and 1 kessil a350 :)) on it and didn't want a middle beam obstructing the middle light. But I can see how it would be nice to be able to lift 1 screen and place on the other.

If not for the stupid bangaii, every fish in my tank eats pellets. ugh.

I also use and like the screens, have 3 on mine. The BRS mesh is great, you can use any window screen frame from lowes or HD, from reviews some people say they are better than BRS. You still need to be careful- I take mine off when re-arranging or working on tank and just found two wrasses that had been missing on the floor behind the tank. Don't know how they did it unless it was one of the periods where I had the screen moved a little and walked away to get food or something. My scissor tail gobys hit the screen a few times a night.

Couldnt believe it when I saw it there, couldnt believe the price also and it was already eating.
David you have mentioned this before- which petco do you find these at? Not out there much but need to make it a point to stop by when I do. How much was the flame wrasse? Got to rub it in- I would love one but never spend the $150+!

Bought screens a while back and you could really tell the difference in the lighting, already have the frames so changing to brs shouldnt be much trouble. Bought a lot of jumpers the last 3 weeks so while the lights are off im going to keep the screens on. Hate waking up to a dead fish on the floor

I run by both of those weekly when Im driving by, most of the time I buy nothing but every week or two like wow look at that. Im sure there other pertco but these two have guys working there that know what there doing. I see the bad rap about them all the time but most of the stuff I buy there lives
