hey guys i'm going outta town this coming week end but would like to take my daughter and wife out to galveston to play on the beach. but if theres some where safe for a 5 year old to look for live stuff that would be really cool. i don't really want to get any sargasum anglers, but some shrimps or seahorses, pipe fish would be kinda cool for her. i also don't wanna take her out at 10pm or later lol so pep hunting probably won't be very successful. but little crabs or stuff would probably be right up her alley. any input would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Gabe you can go just about anywhere in Galveston as long as the sargasum is coming in. You will find anglers/shrimp/pipe fish/sargasum crabs and more. You might get a seahorse if your lucky. Just watch out for the larger sargasum crabs that will be in the sargasum. If for any reason you don't get any anglers I have some you can have.

Good luck

Hi, gabe_j.
If you're interested in the sargassum and all the critters that comes with it, then keep an eye on the wind. What you're looking for is several days of mild southeasterly breezes, less than 15 mph. A couple of days of that kind of breeze and big rafts of sargassum start hitting the beach. The water usually clears up nicely under those conditions too. What you don't want is winds like we've had the last couple of days, 20 mph sustained with 30 mph gusts. When that wind starts blowing, the surf gets real heavy and the sargassum still comes in to the beach but it gets all chopped up into little pieces and the critters get washed out when it hits the breakers.

Just look at weather.com and track the winds.

good luck,
Steve
