Okay so how many of you run dehumidifiers? Although I leave the AC on 72 - the humidity is at 50% in the house. I would prefer it to be in the 30% range.

So which brand you have and how long have you had it?

I would also like to know. What is energy consumption and does it add heat to room?

I haven't really had any issues that I can tell with humidity in the house. My sump, chiller, and frag tank are all in the garage which I believe helps a lot with this.

I recently got this one: hOmeLabs 2500 Sq Ft Dehumidifier from Amazon.
It seems to run non stop even when set to 65% but my 180 is open top along with a few other tanks. It has a hose port which I may end up using so I don't have to empty the bucket daily. Not sure on power consumption but surprisingly my electric bill isn't bad. Overall I'd say it works pretty well. Definitely feels drier in my house.

Steve,

I'm not an expert but I bet it generate heat in the room. Every unit I looked at online had pros and cons so I got one from amazon with the most reviews, lol. This one has a drain plug so I can route it to my waste water line and never have to empty the bucket. It was $215 total.

That's the exact one that I have. Been using it for over a year and I love it

Funny we posted at the same time almost - Yeah my 500/g is open top with a lot of water movement so it's good to be safe and get some of the humidity out.

I got the same one as you but mine says 4000 sq ft/70 pint -

Looking back I should have gotten the bigger one but it still gets the job done

I got the biggest homelabs last month. On advice from other reefers and reviews. It went on sale for $185 so I couldn’t resist. Our humidity would creep up to 60 so it was time. House temp set around 75. On warmer days it fills the bin with the 750xxl open top and sumo fan going with t5’s. I’ve set it at 50 and let it go. Yes it puts out some heat but with fans and ac I wouldn’t think it matters much. I just point the hot air away from the main living area.

I’m waiting for June and July to roll around. I think that’s when I’ll be able to tell its effectiveness the most. I feel that drier air flowing over and around the tank and sump has kept tank temps down but again, the summer will prove or disprove my theory.

So far, so good.
