Thank you; coping saw, trb & flexrac!

trb, I hope I am wrong with my thinking, cause I'd like to hide the drain as you suggest: My understanding of the air relief hole(s) of the derso is that they should be above the rim of the tank??? With the suggestion of lowering them below the overflow level there MAY be a remote, off chance, slim possibility of the drain (and in this case both drains) not keeping up, or if one drain becomes plugged or restricted, the water would rise, cover the air vent holes and create a full siphon of the drain pipe and overflow the sump? Is my understanding wrong? Has anyone ever had, or even heard of something like that happening? As stated earlier, I hope I'm wrong here.

Mike: Yes, I'm liking the pictured rocks, and just keep fighting the urge to keep moving them around.

I am a little disappointed--NOT WITH THE PICTURED ROCKS, but with a couple other rocks I got through "aqua-mag". They claim their magnets will hold their rock up to 5/8" glass thickness. Mine is only 1/2" and with these attached, these suckers slide right down to the bottom. I even thought maybe my latex painted back glass made the magnets pull weaker, so of course, I cut out two small spots for the magnets to have a clear area........stupid idea!!:x I get to re-paint a portion of the back glass. :censored: (Imagine a rock split in half, with a perfectly flat back, and magnets encapsulated in epoxy and mounted inside the flat back of the rock. Your supposed to be able to make a ledge of rock coming off of a glass tank wall). My plan is to try and find some stronger outer 1/2 magnets and get these to work. We will see :?

If the water level did get high enough to cover the vent hole, the siphon, if it did start, would only last a few seconds, until the water level in the overflow section fell below the inlet of the Durso. You would get the "flushing" effect. It won't drain more than is in the overflow section. I haven't had any problems with mine.

I've also seen several setups with the Durso located several inches down in the overflow section. It just sets up the water level in the overflow at a much lower level.

From what I read, the purpose of the hole is to let just enough air into the plumbing so the flow rate is just right to keep the water level in the overflow at a constant level and avoid flushing.

Here is a pic of my overflow setup during testing. I have since lowered the screw in plug a bit and also lowered the whole "T" fitting about 1":

trb- I picked up the plugs today, and will have them set-up in extra tee's with street 90's, for playing around with on test runs. Thanks for the suggestion.

Mike...................... :thumb:

Got home today to find another package on the front step. I'm thinking of buying stock in UPS and Fed-Ex. Kalk stirrer/dosing pump set-up made it.

Looking Good DGTG! Just want to give you a heads up with the rock that you purchased...is that the ceramic rock made by Aquaroche? AquariumSpecialty sells it....if it is don't use it...i put that stuff in my tank and got really bad hair algae and tried everything to get rid of it before i found out it was the rock causing me all the problems...here is a link on reefcentral of a very popular reefer who also tried ceramic rock and had tons of problems like me and removed all the rock...which is what i had to do

:censored: Sigh, what a perfect end to a bad day.

Well, worst case, I will have some very nice garden sculptures in a couple months, and I will be pretty disappointed.

Its time.......... :cheers2:

How long did you soak (guess for lack of better terms --cure) to remove any extra silica from your rock before putting it in your tank? What was your ratio of live rock to ceramic? I saw your photo on rc, why didn't you post the outcome/removal there? I have not found that much negative about this stuff. I'm still looking though, with a cold one in hand:)

Update:
Gonna follow through with using the ceramic rock. I found tanks that have been successful with it. (I'll keep a sharp eye on phosphates and nitrates and make adjustments in the future--- like most everyone in this hobby does, should they become an issue). Does anyone know how many lawn-mower blennies I can fit snuggly into a 180 gallon? lol.

Skimmer Should be here this week :)

Sump made it the other day; a few minor stumbling blocks, but nothing that can't be overcome.

Were I am now: Gonna start the rock going tomorrow. Also, the Mrs. suggested (as we sat and marveled at our soon to be new addition)...... "That stand would look a lot nicer if it was taller and had a nicer finish".................well, guess what I'll be working on in the time till the rock is ready.

Welcome to use my tools, as long as you swear not to sue if you remove or damage any of your own body parts. :)

...and in regards to the Blennies. A WHOLE LOT. :)

The pump will be oriented differently when finished, just circulating some water with vinegar through sump and skimmer (Bubble Magnus 200P) getting it cleaned.

Interior has 2 coats of kilz premium.

The exterior finish type and color has been chosen by my better half. It is a Cabot brand, semi-solid exterior stain, the color will be dark slate. I put the first coat on tonight....she says it looks good...hmmmmm
