Very nice, I like the bi-fold doors on the front. Looking forward to seeing pics of the finish. Would you mind taking a pic of the hinge area on the side door panel, I would like to see how you did that. thanks

Dennis, this is the best I can do for now

Thanks Felix; assuming wow= good, lol.

Cichlidtx, Its hard to explain so bear with me: If you look at the earlier pictures (before skin), on the end without the door, I was able to use 2" X 6"'s and 2" X 4" on the corner posts, then added additional support with 2" X 6"'s inside the corner posts from floor to top rail.

On the end with the door, I used 2" X 6" and a ripped 2" X 4" (actual measurement was 1-1/2 X 2-3/4") for corner post, then added additional support with 1" X 6" inside of corner post from floor to top rail.

Then, recessed the hinges into the ripped corner post. Ended up with about 1/4" clearance on each side of slide out sump & tray. It works better than I expected to. All that to just make the door happen with a slide out tray to easily access that big hoss of a skimmer! I love it....engineering!

Well, that was probably "as clear as mud" for an explanation huh?

The finish is only the first coat with no steel wool yet, I expect it to darken up a little more with the second coat (I know, I'm already making excuses).

DGTG, thanks for the pic and the explanation. Great idea on the slide out tray for that monster skimmer. Keep us posted.

Lol, OK guys, I get the hint. My bad for not updating.

Stand is finished! I put 3 coats of min-wax gloss poly on the stand, after three coats of the stain. The color turned out better than I expected. The finish, well lets say that there are a few marks that could have used a little more sanding here and there, but still acceptable. The Mrs. has blessed its appearance. I will post stand pictures tonight. As far as the FTS, with stand,- it's still in the garage for another 2 weeks-- waiting on "the big move days"--2 full and 1 empty tank being moved to new locations, furniture, etc, etc.)

I am currently seeding the ceramic rock-maybe 2 weeks or so yet to go:)
Ordered the substrate (carib-sea dry, special grade reef sand) last week.
Also gonna switch salt brands (especially for the big tank)--anyone running Sea-Chem REEF Salt? Other than that, finally comfortable with the extended leak test on sump, along with vinegar bath for sump and skimmer.

I hope that i can get a few folks commitments, that are tagging along on this thread, to donate a few cups of sand each, to seed the new sand bed (when the time comes). Anyone?

All for now, I'm just hurrying up and waiting:)

Its coming along.

Used some Seachem "Stability" to get it jump started. Added a clean-up crew & one of FJW's Blonde Naso Tangs a couple weeks ago. My son named the Blonde within a minute of starting acclimation. "Buz Lightyear" has made the scene in our tank:).

Friday swung by and picked-up a new tank-mate for Buz. Her name is "rockstar" (he named her rockstar cause she dug out a hole in the sand bed under one of my base rocks and backs in her cave)......waiting for a silverside to hit the water and pounce. It's a Blue jaw trigger, and we really enjoy her.

Thats about it, as far as adding livestock, for a while. Before hitting the Marsh site tonight, was getting ready to click "add-to-cart" on my Apex. Probably go back there and finish it, when done here.

After that, a couple Vortech 40ES's.....and some tank maturity, then a few coral adds.

Time for an update @ 4 months

Thought I'd share some update pics.

It has been approximately 4 months since starting my bigger tank. Wow, how things change over time. I have not yet given up on the ceramic rock, although we have switched some out for the real deal. Still have some in, just not the quantity that we started with.

As far as the APEX.......outstanding! Everything I have; powerheads, top-off, BRS 2 part, lights, etc, its is all automated.
