So I have used Jebao Gyres in the past, but I've had an Icecap for a while now. I just finally plugged it in today, and really enjoy it. Which types of gyres are y'all using? Which would y'all recommend? Have you noticed wider flow patterns with some? Better ramping? More controllability?

So, I have been using exclusively Ecotech MP's for about two years now, all of them. I initially bought the Maxspect XF350's for my 220g build but ended up selling them before I ever used them as the (4) MP60's are plenty. I decided about a year ago though to explore the Gyre technology in my custom 45g. I started with the small Jebao SCP-70m in addition to two MP40's to get more flow in between two large structures. It has held up very well, it's easy to disassemble and clean and has been running flawless. Though it has an app I never used it.

Recently, I decided to try the new AI Orbit 2 Cross-flow pump in my 20g cryptic refugium to replace two MP10's. Mainly because it works with Mobius and has very similar wave modes, etc. It is super quiet and was very easy to install and implement. It has a small external controller I believe like the Nero pumps as well if you didn't want to use an app. I have not cleaned it yet but, I have disassembled it out of curiosity. These are made by Maxspect or made from Maxspect's specs if I'm not mistaken.

Coincidentally, I decided to try out (2) AI Orbit 4's in place of two of my MP60's as they should be here today actually. I will get them installed soon and update this thread periodically on the performance, reliability, maintenance, etc.

I've been using two icecap 4k gyres on my 160 for little over two years now. I like them, but could be better. Pros, easy to schedule, aim and almost silent, battery backup capable. Cons, pain in butt to replace parts almost every other month and now coralvue isn't selling replacement parts anymore. And when you find them other places it's double the price. One or two micro bubbles turn into million. I also have really been watching the flow and studying the current these two produce and whereas it's great for moving a lot of water. It's not all that random, it's just a lot of water. I have been playing with flow, patterns and cycle durations for months and not figured out a combination that will actually provide random flow. It's super easy to get water moving, but that's where my "easy to schedule" comment ends.

I'm definitely curious how those Orbit's work out for you. They seem like a cheaper alternative to some of the more expensive brands.

So you're having to replace parts regularly on those icecaps? I've had a few Jebao gyres for a few years now and never had a part on them break.

Jebao has a new gyre out with a digital controller and I'm wondering if it gives any more function than the previous models. I also wonder how well the random flow programming of a Jebao stacks up against some of the bigger brands.

Yes, having to replace the motor shaft bushings and the propeller bushings almost every other month.

That's ridiculous. It's like buying the corvette but having to replace the transmission every 10k miles.
