You know how I like toys, and even I think this is worthless. I read on RC that the replacement probes are $200! They also said it takes about 40 seconds for the reading to stabilize when you take a reading. It doesn't take much longer for me to test calcium with my Salifert kit.

Now an Alk monitor/controller would be pretty useful. That would be great for controlling a calcium reactor.

"Is it recommended to replace the calcium probe tip every 18–24" You get a while on the probe

I'd always wondered why no one had ever done this b-4. Maybe we'll get cheaper knock-offs that also test for alk, in the next year or two. That'd be sweet.

Well the problem I have is in calibration. I have a PH probe but never sure if I can trust the readings or if it is time to calibrate again. Guess that just comes with experience.

I calibrate my pH probes every couple of months. I know, they say to do it every month, but I always forget. Anyway, when I calibrate them they are never off by very much - I would say a max of about .05 units.

The only time I've seen a big difference was the last time I calibrated my Pinpoint monitor, and it took a huge adjustment and even after that it didn't read near what the other 2 probes read, so I took that as a sign that the 15 month old probe had gone bad.

As a percentage of investment, I'd think $250 would be insignificant to you Quoc :D.

Ok, someone explain Alk to me, I've never understood it.
I get the PH, I get Calcium, I get most of that stuff, but never the Alk.

Just think of alk as the amount of carbonate producing molecules that you have available for coral skeleton growth - ie CaCO3 - calcium carbonate. It's mostly either useable bicarbonate, or carbonate in various forms. It's more complicated than that, but for our purposes - what we can test for anyway - kH is really a reefer's only concern. AKA carbonate hardness.
