So heres the deal. I was in home depot the other day and I saw these led lights that screw into a regular light socket. They had like 15 or 20 leds in each bulb. I was thinking abought building a hood for my 55 and fitting abought 20 of these in there. Would it be as bad ********* as I think it would be or are they totally different kinds of lights ?

They should be the same. LED's are LED's; It just may be that the voltage on them is low. If the voltage is low, the wattage is low and it won't give you enough watts. Also, these may not be in the correct spectrum for growing corals.

What color are they?
I have a feeling the tank will look really yellow with it. My LED fixtures have about 2x the number of blue LEDs as they do white.

Also, those LED bulbs are designed for illumination and the lowest power output reasonable. For our applications, you want to get the most light output from the LEDs, which is a very different paradigm in design.

Sorry for the delayed response guys. As soon as I posted I had to take my boy to the emergency room. But it just so happens that there is a home depot on the way home that I stopped in and they arent daylight spectrum.
Thanks for all the imput guys. Ill go check out that link you posted Felix.

I got two those boostLEDs in 20K.

I like the color a lot.

Wish my maxspect was that blue without modding it.
