Just wondering if anyone on here has made there own live rock? If so what did you use, how many parts of material, how much material did you buy, how much did it make, what you think about it, and what would you change about it. I have done alot of research and I know what I want to use just want some different opinions from someone with experience.
Thanks and look forward to talking to you

Yeah that stuff looks great but I have specific structures that I want to do. I want to make some columns and some table tops to put corals on.I will try and find some pics.

need patience

pa·tienceˈpāSHənsnounthe capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset."you can find bargains if you have the patience to sift through the dross"synonyms: forbearance, tolerance, restraint, self-restraint, stoicism;Dont make your own unless you have a lot of it. Takes months of regular water changes to get the ph below 9. That being said I have always made my own for exactly the reason you gave. I can get the exact shape I want and it is a sold piece so I dont have to worry about landslides.

That ok I have plenty time don't plan on getting out anytime soon. What materials do you use? I am going to try a batch with pumice and see how it comes out. I find alot on the beach great for bio filter I been testing it for about a year in my tanks and so far so good.

not near a beach so

I use 3 parts crushed coral, 1 part Caribsea sand and 1 part white portland. I build a pvc substructure to get the shape I want. Just remember the final item will be an inch or so wider and taller than the pvc. Getting the right amount of water is the key, Too much and it will be almost solid and too little and it will be crumbly. Dont be afraid to leave it in the mold for several days.

Thanks I appreciate it. Ever use salt in your mix?I think I am going to use 1.5 parts oyster, 1.5 part pumice,1 part salt,1 part sand, and work out the concrete on the first batch and see how it turns out. Thanks again any pics. would be greatly appreciated. Anything you would change?
