I was just wondering what some of you guys do for adding new lps and sps into your tanks? Do you treat them with anything, and if so what and for how long? I used to add corals into my old display tank and it seemed to work fine years ago. However I ran my new tank empty for 72 days and all the fish I have been getting are getting a full QT cycle with preventative treatment of copper and prazi-pro, so I assume my tank is currently disease free. Will the addition of coral if drip acclimatized and then moved to a container with tank water then to the DT keep it that way?

No- not at all. You should dip all coral regardless of the source. Search Bayer advanced or coral rx or revive- all good for getting the pests off your coral. In addition to coral pests they may have eggs/tomonts from infected fish in the source tank that you then transfer to your tank- that's (and AEFW eggs) some of the reasons that people even run coral quarantines in addition to dipping.

Yep, everything gets dipped in Bayer. And if possible I'll remove and discard the frag plugs.

Bayer here also. I only remove the plugs if the coral has not encrusted. I check thoroughly for eggs on the plugs though. Also I never drip acclimate corals, only temp acclimate, especially if they have been sitting in the bag overnight. The ammonia build up when the fresh air hits it can severely affect the health of the corals. Best to just throw them into the dip water with water from your tank after temp acclimation.

Dipping/treating SPS corals with Bayer/Revive is not enough anymore in my opinion. Setting up a QT same as display and observe the frags/colonies for few months before they go in the display. That's my new plan.

Thank you guys for all the valuable information, I will dip all the LPS, Zoa's and later on the SPS with Bayer before putting them in my display tank.

RR-man, you have a great plan, and if it were not for my QT tank being medicated with copper and a few other medications I would have liked to go the month or 2 route with corals.

Velvet is coral Marine disease that can wipe out all your qt fish if you do not qt coral properly. Like RR John said, seems liek stuff is becoming immune to our treatments...... hmm... must be something like the gmo corn that doesn't work now and we lost a good amount of different kinds of corn . Nature keeps adapting

Know what you mean.

Either QT or don't keep SPS. It's heart breaking to see your SPS dying everyday once you get AEFW in the main tank. I went through it once and it made me restart and ending up selling the tank.
