I am looking to buy a bunch of pods (1,000?) and looking to see if I can give funds local if at all possible. I have looked at get your pods but that's a $70 investment (half is shipping) and reefs2go is cheaper but seems 2 be hit and miss on quality and customer service. So if I'm going to throw down a little cash I would like to do it local if possible.

You might hit Cat up.
If she doesn't have them available I go in with you but not by reefshas2go.
I have 3 or 4 source channels that has some awesome deals for pods.

I just got a bag-O-pods from Dennis at FJW last night, I think they are on sale, $14 and change for (I think) 16 oz of Tisbe's with a shot of Phyto for the trip. Dropped them in the 'fuge, and I guess I'll see how they do.

I've thought about that. I bought a little thing of tiger pods but those won't last long.

Copepods / amphipods. If you started your tank with dry rock you may not have many. If you have a bug eater like a wrasse, mandarin or scooter goby, they may need live food while you are trying to get them onto flake. They will eat every last bug in your tank.

A tank that can support a healthy copepod and amphipod population is a sign of a healthy system. :)

Are these pods visible? And do they breed?

Yes, if they are amphioxus they are little shrimp about the size of a fingernail cutting. If they are copepods they look like little aquarium lice. If you have copepods in your tank, you will see them mostly at night, on the glass near your sand. Amphipods are also mostly nocturnal but you can see them more in the rock. Or if you have a refugium they may be wedged around in the densest areas of algae growth.

I have had my Manderen since 2008... for the first 5 years I was going to Detroit to ged tiger pods every 6 months. I have not been since last January 2014. He seems to be doing fine. I do have an under gravel filter so maybe I have a culture of tiger pods in there. I do plan on being in the detroit area in February so I just might wait till then. I am not even sure he is feeding on them but he does do the odd peck around the tank so I duno. Jim
