Hey Marsh members! I still remember when I came to Houston for your MACNA event. Can you believe that was five years ago? We had such a good time, and a bunch of DFWMAS members made the trip south to hang out with all of y'all.

I'm encouraging you to NOT buy a new coral, new MH bulb, new pump this week. Use that $85 to get the full conference package for MACNA 2012, which is being hosted by our club next year. DFWMACNA is taking place the last weekend in September at the downtown Sheraton hotel.

Tell your boss, your spouse and your family members that that weekend is booked, a year in advance. I want every one of you guys to immerse yourself in the MACNA-experience. This is the third time in 10 years that MACNA is in Texas, and you will have an incredible time.

Buy your ticket now, because on October 1 the price jumps up to $109. Why waste extra money for the exact same thing? I know you guys are always looking for the lowest price for anything you buy - well this is it. Next year, carpool or hire a charter bus to drive up as a group, and share rooms with each other to save money that way. With you being 'local', costs are minimal compared to those that have to fly in and rent a car to get around.

There will be tons to learn to be educated as reef keepers, over 150 booths filled with vendors handing out free schwag, the chance to win some amazing stuff to upgrade what you have now that you had to buy because you couldn't afford the nicer option. Couple all of that with the Friday night reception and Saturday night gala, you'll only need cash to buy food and any products that you can't live without.

This year, I invited a person to attend MACNA in Des Moines a few weeks before the event. She wasn't even in the hobby yet, but she paid over $150 to attend. I did the exact same thing in 2002 when I went to my first MACNA. You have the chance to do just that, at a mere $85. Don't procrastinate and tell all your friends and club members to sign up now. I want everyone to get the best deal possible. Here's the link:

I just wish it was not that weekend, then I could probably go. My quarter end reporting period starts on the 28th so no way I can take off. :(

I'm guessing you could come down with the flu Thursday and then on Sunday either due to your superb immune system or a miraculous recovery you will be available to work Monday!

I second that, there not a lot of time spent in the room, Ive split a hotel with people for the MACNAs Ive been to. The amount of knowledge and fun packed into this weekend will be some of the best spent money for your tank!

Year after year, I've had to book room nights for Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. Sunday I fly back from wherever, so it is three nights. I've shared my room with a friend to cut costs in half. Usually I paid around $200 for my room, $300 or so for my fight.... I always try to stay at the host hotel because I'm up until 2 or 3am each night hanging out with the speakers, vendors, and hobbyists that run nocturnally. hehehe

With you guys driving in, it saves you quite a bit of money. And with it being a year out, you can budget about $60 a month into a MACNA envelope and have a very comfortable experience. You'll be able to afford a decent dinner instead of a Happy Meal with a little planning.

I know you guys grow and sell frags. Use that money for your MACNA fund!

I would offer my room but I don't think my wife and daughter would appreciate it. Yes I am dragging them with me. They are doing all of the raffle tickets cuz if it weren't for bad luck I would have no luck at all

The Sheraton Dallas Hotel - I "think" this is where the event is hosted.

I compared the prices for checking in that day without the MACNA Rate at that hotel......I would suggest if you are planning on staying at the hosting hotel (Sheraton) you book now.

The MACNA Rate is $114, the AAA was not available and rooms started at $369 a night!
