I have been dosing nitrates. My consumption has gone up. What is everyone else using to dose nitrates? Looking for a cheaper option than using brightwell

Here’s what I use. I made my own calculator for it too.

Cost $3.50 per pack, which last literally an infinite amount of years.

The question is…what’s in it and how pure is it? I bet they’ll never tell. Could be Stump Remover! Not to mention, postassim nitrate will eventually interfere with your potassium level if you have to dose daily.

I’m just going off what Randy Farley told me when I asked which one he’d dose.

How much KNO3 do you have to dose for nitrates before it starts tampering with your K levels? I dose 5ml of KNO3 per day and mine is EXTREMELY concentrated. However, I’ve never had an issue with K being high or now. Always spot on.

Not really sure. I just watch mine on ICP. I’m assuming you’d probably be ok and it would take quite a bit to actually elevate it to a toxic level. Really depends what salt you’re using and which 2-Part or dosing method you use.

For example if you were using Fritz salt and dosing ESV 2-part it would probably creep up fairly quickly.

I’ve gone back to regular IO and quit using reef crystals because it’s elevating my CAL and MAG out of my target ranges. Everything else is ok and then I supplement from ICP analysis.

Yeah I use reef crystal. It’s perfect for my automatic daily water changes. The elevated levels are great!

It’s a good salt, don’t get me wrong! It’s just my current style of reefing has really changed. I’m targeting more natural seawater levels. Some elements slightly elevated, but not much.

Aren’t you going on RM program? There is a lot of elements that are elevated…
