Hey all,

I got the text from my tanks at 9:45 AM yesterday that my tanks lost power. Click to the news and the neighboring dollar store is on fire. They couldn't figure out how to turn off the power to that building so they cut power to our side of the block. The 3 alarm fire was a pain to put out in the old building. I had battery back up for a few hours. I never imagined I would be locked out of my building. The fire fighters went and got my dog for me. ( my happy go lucky dog was excited to go for a walk with a stranger) I was finally let back in the building at 7 pm. Sadly my marine betta and a pajama cardinal was dead. My large deresa clam looked really bad and today hes still alive but completely closed and receded.

I had a generator stowed away for just this occasion. Using every extension coord in my house we got all 4 tanks running again. All the other 14 fish were gulping for air. At midnight salvation came when the power was restored.

When you think you got all your bases covered, this hobby still throws some curve balls at you.

Crazy, sorry to hear. How long were they with no power total after the battery back up died?

That's strange that fish started dying so quickly. Was it a temperature issue?

oh man that sucks. Sorry for your losses. Couldn't hurt to send them an invoice, I doubt they will pay but who knows.

Man, isn’t that the truth!

Glad you got them back online. I had issues with these last flooding events. My power went out. Luckily I was prepared but there were some obstacles. When the power went out, I could not access my garage. Not to mention the gates to my apartments would not work either. I had to call maintenance. Just made me realize that have a way to access my garage other than by powered remote would be wise.

One of the biggest issues when you loose power is that if you have a large fish population they begin to deplete the available oxygen rapidly. I’m assuming this will drop the pH and begin to kill corals given the time frame. Pretty sure it will kill your bacterial colonization as well.

I still need a generator!
