I have an overflow box and just built a Durso Standpipe to eliminate the flushing sound. If anyone has installed one of these on their overflow box do you notice the water level in the overflow box will flucuate up and down? Is this normal? Do I need to drill a larger hole in my vent cap? I drilled a 3/32 hole to start with. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Yeah. It has to do with your back pressure. the end of your drain my submerge too far. I think if your hole is too small it makes to do the same. Also give it some time. mine seems to level out after 10-15 mins

I get about an inch of water level flucuation in the overflow box.. The gurgling sound is gone :) but it still looks like it is going through a flushing cycle if that makes sense.

as long as it's quiet- it's not going to hurt anything. If anything it's creating a nice little surge flow in your sump that your critters will like.

I have both durso and stockman (mods) in my tanks. I have never seen what you are experiencing, but I agree with mrlimpet that it is most likely the hole size. My holes are all 1/4" (I think)

Drill a bigger hole... that solved my issue.

Drilled a bigger hole 1/8 and now the overflow box is barely keeping up with my return pump (mag7). On my stand pipe should my 90 degree that is sucking the water be under the water level completely.

You can also adjust the drain valve from tank to your sump if it's still bobbing up and down. Sometimes you have to play with it a little to equalize the pressure going into the tank with the pressure going through the Durso. I drilled a hole through the cap and the pipe on my Durso large so then I can twist the cap to adjust the hole size, if that makes sense.
