My mother's xenia is acting weird. She says it looks like it is just falling over and dying, almost metling into the rocks. She says all the other corals are fine, except for JUST the pulsing xenia. She is going to do a water change tonight, but I was curious if you guys might have any suggestions. I know my xenia was acting funny the last few days too, but it perked back up this morning. Any ideas?

Run some carbon, maybe there is some chemical warfare or something. I personally have a hard time keeping the stuff alive.

Xenia is one of those hit or miss things. Some people can't keep it alive and some have it growing like weeds. What lighting is on her tank and how are the other parameters. I have heard that xenia likes a little "funkier" water than most corals so it could be that her water is too good in quality.

Sounds like a bacterial infection nothing you can do.
My Xenia doesn't grow fast even though I wouldn't mind it.

I am not sure of the parameters, but she will be running some carbon tonight in the cannister filter. Her specific gravity is around 1.025. She is running PC lighting. I will have to check with the wattage.

Isis,
The Xenia will melt down if the Alkalinity is low or not stable.

My individual polyp (not branching) Xenia takes occasional "naps". It will look somewhat gray instead of beige and lay down. This happens maybe every 3 weeks and it stays down about 2 days.

When it gets up it's just as good as ever. I have it in 3 different places and they do NOT do the "napping" simultaneously. It spreads fairly quickly too.

Is this normal or is there a message it's trying to send? (Flow???)
