Im just brain storming, I know, I know....canisters are evil. But I have a spare tank and the filter that I can't get rid of for some reason? I'm thinking of adding a few pieces of live rock inside it. Nothing else. Just two big pieces of live rock.

So for my water changes just empty out the canister, clean it and fill it up with new water. I can't really see how it will get bad. It will be like a enclosed sump.

So if I keep the canister clean. It should be ok?
It will be on a ten gallon

It should be fine if you maintain it. I have one. Was going to put it on my 20g frag tank to provide some chemical, mechanical and additional surface area for nitrifying bacteria.

the impeller on my ehiem went bad from exposure to salt water.

First time I hear this especially on an eheim filter.

I have been using eheim canister on a reef tank for the last 15 years without any ill effect as long as its maintained properly.

I had used them in past with no issues. I was surprised to hear this as well. Wonder if it was just a bad impeller shaft.

EHEIM classic 600

The manufacturer says it is saltwater compatible. I actually have the 2215 (classic 350)..
