I have read forums on reef central concerning this topic and it seemed like most people agreed that you don't save that much more on electricity using electronic rather than magnetic ballasts. I was just wondering what people on MARSH think.

So they are suppose to last longer if using electronic, what past a year, we thought for magnetics you changed them once a year. Is this right?

Personnally I don't think the electronic ballasts are worth the extra money. Any money you might save running them is more than offset by the extra price. You can buy a magnetic ballast fairly cheap and build your own setup. I've been running mine for a couple of years now on my tanks, and have been running them for years on different jobsites.
