I'm quitting freshwater and will be converting my 29g (30" wide) to more reef.

I want to discover a skimmer/fuge to minimize the room eaten up by equipment in the tank. The tank lives on a very sturdy file cabinet, so there is no underneath. Winter heater will also live in the fuge.

I am looking for input on LED lighting and fuge/skimmer.

I might retro my dual t5 that lights it now, and add a heat sink fore and aft to use the t5 and its feet. I want the POP that some violet led will add in this tank. I will shoot for enough light for LPS, or just enough for a clam, but I'm not after sps corals.

What do you say?

Skimmer/Fuge This looks like a pretty decent one, with nice reviews.

If you are looking at LED's, check out Ecotech's new ones. You should only need one. The lighting you have now should be enough for a clam, but you may want to put it in the rockwork. T5's are typically plenty, and still my favorite light source due to the color options available "now." I would try to do, at least, 4 over your tank. Maybe 2 ATI B+, an actinic, and a KZ Purple or ATI P+.

The T5 combo suggested can really bring out some colors! I use almost the same setup in T5 bulbs on my rsm. LED lights are nice for the fact of in tank heat is minimized and lifespan of LEDs are far superior to the rest of the current available light sources. but, on the flipside- quality LED fixtures are not cheap by any means. there are plenty of HOB combo fuge/skimmer products on the market- chech ebay-a lot to be found there too!
