At the April meeting Eric discussed the efforts that are underway with his Elegance Coral Project. If you need more information on it, you can read more on Reef Central. There is a comprehensive discussion of the project here.

One of the things that Eric asked was if any of you, in your trips to the fish stores, see either healthy or sick elegance corals you can contact him via e-mail telling him where the coral is and give him information about the coral. If you find sick specimens you can also talk to the store owner/manager to try to discuss donation of the specimen to Eric's project.

Please, if you decide to try to get the coral as a donation read the information on the project so that you can discuss it intelligently with the owner/manager. If the store does donate the coral, just tell the store to mark it NFS (not for sale) and have them wait until Eric comes to pick it up. Do not try to take it home yourself. We want to minimize stress on the animal until we can get it into a lab situation.

To contact Eric, just send him an e-mail at eborneman@uh.edu

Thanks, and good hunting.

If anyone does locate a store with an Elegance or better yet, convinces them to donate or discount the coral for Eric please let us know as well. We would like to know the sucess MARSH and the local LFS's had in Eric's project.

Just reply here what your result was and we can track it with this post.

I was at Village Tropical on Saturday and they still had 1 or 2...and they were dying.

...Guess I'll email Eric.

Um, yes...

That 'someone' is me, since I said I would email Eric, and I did.

So, yes, it's taken care of. Right after I wrote that message I sent him an email.

I told him about the two at Village Tropical at the meeting and he said he knew about them already, but I didn't think to ask him why he didn't pick them up. One of them looked pretty good, and the other had noticable tissue degeneration and exposed skeleton. :(

I sure hope he cracks the mystery because I'd love to have a beautiful, healthy elegance coral in my tank.

I talked to Eric and he figured it out all you need is Marc Weiss' new product for Elegance Corals. :D

i know we at pet stop in college station have a very large elegance in our display tank that we've had for over 2 years that rob is discretely looking to sell, maybe, and at least one for sale in back, maybe two....i cant remember. we've lost a few for sure, but id rack those up to the system being less than 2 months old at this point

What about the ones in the system before ya'll opened the new fish room. I seem to remember a couple for sale in the top tanks where the corals usually were

True, but I have had luck using his Blackpowder product to bring color back into faded Acro's.

I agree....I have used the blackpowder product with some success....I guess I can't really say it was because of the black powder but I used it anyway.....hehe
