I've had my RS-80 working great for the past 6 months. Just this week a huge amount of microbubbles are coming out of the water outflow tube and filling my sump and being pumped into the display tank. Before this week the water coming out of the output tube has always been water with no (or very little) bubbles.

I have not changed anything that I can think of that would change they way the skimmer is working. I have to virtually close the air input valve to stop this from happening.

Any thoughts?

did you recently clean it? does it need to be cleaned? did you recently change a filter sock (they drive skimmers crazy)? did you dose anything...like prodibio or any other medicine? sometimes the medicines will cause some funky skimmer action as well.

I cleaned it several weeks ago. It had a lot of coraline growth inside and I actually soaked the skimmer and sump in a light vinegar solution overnight. It ran fine for 2 weeks after that.

the day everthing changed the electricity went off and return pump did not restart so the sump level rose as the tank drained. When i got home the skimmer was overflowing from the collection cup becuase of the extra pressure of the high water level. I restarted the return pump and the skimmer has been pouring bubbles out of the water output ever since.

Try turning the output tube labeled open and close. You might have to adjust it.

I would start by taking it apart to make sure everything is ok. Some thing might have snapped when the pump stopped and started when the power went out.
