What reef salt do you consider best for a mixed reef tank? Currently I am using Aqua Forest and used Fritz previously.

I recommend using whatever matches your desired parameters best and maintaining those parameters with dosing. Beyond that, I don't really think it matters. I have heard of problems with probiotics though.

I have used Fritz and Red Sea Pro.. I like the Fritz as it mixes closer to desired Alkalinity and seems to leave less residue on mixing bucket/pump/heater.

I run a zeovit system so use Reefers Best Salt. It is pricey, however, I have had some success...

I'm glad the ol' classic "what is the best salt" thread has been posted again. I have two questions for you all!

1. What salt is everybody using? I'm currently using regular IO.

2. Are you adding all elements such as CAL, ALK, MAG, to your mixing reservoir and testing until it's at your desired levels? Or do you do your water changes and then redose via doser or manually dose until you reach your desired levels?

Webster, how you been man. That stunning tank of yours still on point? That thing is beautiful!

I need to come get that soft coral frag from that huuuuuuuuggggggeeeee mother colony. Do you still have it for me!!!!
Haha, actually I do. I was just thinking about posting them up on here tomorrow. Come get one if you want. I still have one more that I'll probably offer to anyone wanting to come get it. And thanks for the compliment.

I use IO Reef Crystals. I figure since I change about 25% water every week, it doesn't really matter what salt I use since its gets replenished weekly and Reef Crystals is the cheapest.. Oh, I also dose kalkwasser solution in my ATO.

Roger that...I will come by tomorrow evening or Tuesday evening would be better. I'm working tonight and will sleep all day tomorrow. When I get up, I'm in the process of building to 40/B sumps and still painting my stand. Maybe I'll take a break and swing by.

Anyway back to salt topic. I've used RSCP Webster. I felt like it didn't mix nearly as clean as IO. Does it mix clean for you?

I use Tropic Marin Pro. The Alk, Cal, and Mag are at the exact levels I shoot for. If by chance Alk is low I will dose some alk into my mixing container to match my tank before doing a water change. Cal & Mag have always been perfect.

Tropic Marin Pro also does not use a clay binder in the salt. It mixes very fast and clean. I don't have to clean my mixing container but once every 6-7 months. I make 65 gal. a week.

I switched from Fritz to Aqua Forest and have noticed a quick drop in Mag. I'm just starting out on sps and was not testing that as often as I should have been and noticed a couple of my sps frags that had been growing and looking great for months all of a sudden started turning white. I have started dosing mag this weekend, but may switch salts. Still researching and considering, but really appreciate all the input and opinions!

All my other parameters were in line and I had Oceanlife double check my testing to confirm.

I use Instant Ocean supposed to be the world's number one sea salt. Or at one time it was? I get at a great price during after Christmas sales and stock up for the year.

Sounds like a good one mark. I may have to try it. I'm sure it's expensive though. How much more than IO reef crystals?
