I have a single juvenile Ocellaris Clownfish that my little girl picked out a couple of months ago. Of course, she calls it Nemo. Nemo is her favorite fish. She talks to him and greets him good morning says goodbye to him before heading off for school. She is 9 years old.

Nemo seems to get along with the other fishies and corals in the tank. He is eating well and actually became "friends" with the 3 greem chromis. They actually hang around each other all the time like the true pals.

While on a business trip last week and my little girl called me and told me that Nemo is missing. I told her to look around. Maybe he is hiding behind the rocks playing hide and seek with her. Of course, I feared the worse. She is very upset. I asked my wife to look at the tank and check for Nemo. I told her if she finds him floating, don't show the body to our daughter and simply dispose of it quietly. She found nothing.

When I got home, I checked myself. Maybe Nemo jumped and has now dried up behind the tank. At least I can tell her that Nemo fell or something like that. I didn't want to just replace Nemo with a look-a-like. The weekend came and my little girl is now very worried. I told her that maybe Nemo died and the snails and crabs ate him. She started to cry. I told her to pray for Nemo.

Well, a few minutes ago, I was checking my refugium, and guess who I found? Yup, it's Nemo. He seems healthy and un-injured. The only way he could have gotten there is by getting sucked in the overflow, through the 1.5" piping, past a couple of Y split that either leads to the sump or the refugium. I guess he made the right turn.

I can't wait to tell my little girl when she wakes up tomorrow that I found Nemo. :)

What he doesn't know is his wife was at PetCo last week and bought a new "Nemo". She threw it in the refugium and has been waiting for someone to find it. :D
Thats great I wish when I had fish disappear I found them happy and healthy in the fuge.

Thats a great story and talk about a great ending. Someone is going to be a hero for sure.

I added like 6 peppermint shrimp to my 180g some time back. They were sort of small but I figured they'd be ok together. Well, I never saw them again. Any of them.... Well, same ending. I found them about 10days later in my eco-sump. 4 of the 6 made in somehow through the overflow filled with bio-balls, through the tubing to the first chamber of the eco-sump again filled with bio-balls and they are now a happy family in the mud chamber of my eco-sump.

How in the world they made it through all that I will never figure out.

You know you have to get another Ocellaris soon otherwise Nemo is about a month a way from turning into a female.

What I don't get is how one of my sexy shrimp disappeared and they were the only things in the freaking 2-gallon. I think the female killed the male. Anyone know where sexy shrimps are sold??

This is one of the things I wonder about. First, how do I know if my Nemo is a he and not a she. We just call "him" Nemo. How do I find a mate for the little guy. Is there a fish pimp I can go to? I don't want to buy one and then find out they are both boys (or girls). Not that anything is wrong with that, I just don't want them to fight.

Any ideas on sexing them?

Josh is right. However if you get a tank raised Ocellaris from PetCo or any LFS selling ORA stock it will be so young, no matter the size, that it will be unsexed. IME pairing Ocellaris is a breeze and I have yet to see them duke it out to see who will be the female. If after a couple of weeks they are locking lips you have two angry females.
Please read this...

Odds are though Nemo is still a "Pat" neither man nor women.
