I have a finger leather that I purchased about three weeks ago. It has opened up quite a bit and turned from dark green to a light yellow when my MH's are on during the day. It's been doing this each day since I bought it.

This softie is at the bottom of my tank and not too close to the MH's. It gets light to medium water flow, and I feed the tank with cyclopeez once a week. My SPS, LPS, Toadstool leather, mushrooms, and plate coral are all happy and doing well. My xenia and anthellia is also growing like crazy (ugh!).

My water quality is excellent (zero on most everything) and my calcium is around 275... I've never been able to get it over 325 and keep it there, btw.

I do not have any fish or inverts picking at the coral. They're all reef safe tangs, a clown, etc.

For those of you who have finger leathers, do you find that they retract for a couple of days to a week despite great water and lighting conditions?

yes they do, as most leathers will close up from time to time just because

as for your calcium, try turbo calcium to increase it
