Anyone have any suggestions on how to get a bar goby out of my overflow. He somehow jumped (even with a lid) and got into the overflow. He has been there for 2 days now. My current net barely fits back there, but there is no room to manuever and catch him. I can't even see him except for the instances he tries to jump. I would love some help on this! Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Stephen

I'm not sure how your tank is set up. But would it be possible to turn your pump off and pull out the drain pipe in your overflow causing the little guy to get sucked down into the sump where he would be easier to catch?

Put a pvc pipe with an elbow in there. Eventually he will go into it when he does, pull it out. I have done that a couple of times.

I don't currently have any pics. I am going to try the PVC pipe idea. That sounds like the most painless way to try first. Thx!

Depending on the size, I got some baby Bangaii cardinals out of mine by sucking them up in a large hose into a 5 gallon bucket

Did you try a fishing pole yet?!! Haha! But seriously, that pipe method would be my first attempt. Sounds pretty easy. And try to avoid sucking the guy out through overflow or any pipe, really. There's the potential for him to get injured. That would be a last attempt, if I were in your shoes.

Hi, garaymail.
I had a firefish do that once. I ended up flushing him down into the sump, he came out ok, but he hid in the rocks for a couple of days to get over his trauma...

good luck,
Steve

That makes two for the water slide technique.

I turned my pump off, put a small tube in the overflow and siphon the water out. Once the water is mostly gone just reach in and pick him up. Super easy and very low stress.
