When you buy used stuff, you gotta' expect the unexpected. I've purchased a lot of used stuff on this build, and had to buy "stuff" to replace some of the broken "stuff" that came with the "stuff" I've bought from locals. Some expected, and some unexpected. Check out my running tally if you're interested in what I had to do. I'm really just glad that they are cheap/simple fixes, though.

I received my RW-8's, Jebao dosing unit, a tubing holder for the Jebao unit, and a few other items. Should be getting a lot of stuff tomorrow. I won't be able to do anything with it until this weekend or next week, though.

The RW-8's are smaller than I thought they would be, and I'm okay with that. I may purchase a couple of RW-15's next. I've never used these pumps before, but I have seen a RW-4 in action and was impressed.

The Jebao dosing pump unit is "meh." Pretty standard and and easy to use, really. It pumps fast, but I'll probably set it up to dose small amounts throughout the day (when I get to that point, of course).

Thanks for the advice on them. I may just get something else then. Maybe two more RW-8's then, on some sweeps. Or those WP-25's... something like that.

I love those regulators. I had one on my last system and enjoyed it.

Got a lot done in the past week... well, IMO. :p

The tank has been cycling for a few days now. The rock, a bit longer. Here's a bunch of pics:

FillerUp_zpse8455d83.jpg

Found out why they put that center brace in there. Ha!

VinegarSoakSkimmer_zpse26a18eb.jpg

Don't recall if I posted this, but this is when I was giving the skimmer a vinegar bath (5 parts water to 1 part vinegar). It was pretty grimy (as they should be), and I had to replace the pump to feel comfortable with it. Other than some alignment issues (volute into body, mostly) it actually skims rather well. A bit surprised, to be honest. Time always tells though.

MockUpPlumbing_zps2f4eec65.jpg

Don't recall if I posted this one either. This a mock-up of my plumbing. Simplicity at it's finest. It's also louder than using PVC when you do it this way. And weaker. And more prone to leaks. I didn't feel like getting too crazy under here.

GoodDealOnApex_zps87c75a7a.jpg

Here's the Apex I got. I had to get a new display. The original was broken when I got it home. Right where the connector meets the wire. :( Ah well... still a great deal, nonetheless.

GluingRodsToRock_zps48bd38c7.jpg

Here's what I did to my bigger rocks.

AcrylicRodRock_zps2bbe73dc.jpg

BiggestRockPukani_zps36825475.jpg

To prevent detritus build-up and create a "floating rock" look. I like how it turned out, and it was super easy to do.
Oh, and believe it or not, the above is about the size of two basketballs!

FTSFreshWaterLeakTest_zps62037b28.jpg

Leak testing and cleaned the glass with an EZ-Bladed Piranha.

An interesting/funny thing that happened to me, during this process... I accidentally put all the gaskets on the nut end of all four of my bulkheads vs. the flange-end on the inside of the overflows. HAHA! ::cough::NEWBIE::cough:: I did a quick  then fixed it. Duh.

More as it comes. :) I need to update my spreadsheet, too. Been pretty busy...

LOL! Y'all's crazy!

So, here's a pic-by-pic:

Here's a picture of my allowing the rocks to cure-up.

20140909_190813_zpssuvmdewu.jpg

Here's a picture of my buying a D700 from Dennis when they first got to his store. I like it way better than the Curve 7 I had. Actually, love the thing.

Pump for skimmer. Kinda' neat, but definitely unnecessary.

20140909_210231_zpsv0kd6ui7.jpg

You can see the needlewheel in there... I may go mesh later, but again... not necessary.

20140915_211123_zps36484b86.jpg

Decided on a light sand bed since Robert gave me a mystery wrasse. Thanks dude!

You can see the RW-15 on the left there. I got it from Dennis.

20140917_162017_zps1711971c.jpg

Built a simple shelf for my dosing setup.

20140917_162030_zps2718f988.jpg

Loving the pocket jig.

Still messy... :D

From here, I hung the light with some EMT and added some Phoenix bulbs. Looks crisper. I started growing some mad hair algae, so I ordered a CUC and I'm pruning the heck out of the rocks as I go.

Here's the package I got from Reef Cleaners.org. I also added 5-6 Emerald's. They went to munchin'!

That's pretty much it. Still got a long way to go.

Oh, I forgot to add that I ordered a ReefDynamics (fka EuroReef) BP135 for my setup. I was running a CADLights unit, but it's really not up to the task, IMO. It looks nice, but it's pretty awful, really.

In the spirit of the budget build, I'm getting the unit "almost new" for $210. They're $299 new. Got it on Ebay.
Bio Pellet Reactor for 135 gallon Systems For In-Sump and External Use

Should have it by Friday. I'm pretty sold on the idea of only using recirculating BP reactors vs. standard ones. If you're interested in the quick and dirty, check these videos out:

Anyway, more to come!
