The Sargassum is gone!!! Came down tonight 8-16-13 to relieve some stress by collecting in the sargassum, low and behold it is gone. So I figured if anyone was thinking about coming to Galveston for the sargassum this weekend it is a bust.

We went tonight as well. We did get a lot of shrimp and saw tons of little crabs but that was all! :-(

I didn't see much of it on Monday like I was hoping for. I did find some way down west end like beach pocket 35 or 38 or something close to that number. I do know it was not to terribly for from the bridge were you pay the $2.00.

Wow, I actually finally caught a pipefish guys!!! We went down to Surfside for a relaxing beach day, and I brought my net and bucket :)

There were some small bits of sargassum floating in; in the two biggest pieces I netted I found a pipefish! Unfortunately some kids were enjoying looking at one in the bucket and let it get away lol. But I caught the second one and he is currently acclimating for addition to the fuge! There's also a bunch of mysids I plan to add for some biodiversity - maybe they're different mysids from the ones already in the fuge.

Good for you, Lee!

I don't know what's the difference, but this year's sargassum crop is way, way less than any year I can remember. Even when I go out into the gulf to go fishing, we usually see plenty of weed lines, but not this year. Last time I went, a couple of weeks ago, there were none at all....kinda strange.

good luck,
Steve

Few months back the news said it would be coming in light this year. Don't remember the reason but they where dead on so far.
