I tried to frag a small piece of the colt coral, and it is not working so well. I tried the toothpick method where you place the toothpick through the base and then rubberband it to a rock. The bottom keeps tearing off, it not working so well. Does anyone else have another method for attaching the colt coral to a rock?

Thanks
Rick

What kind of superglue do you use? Do you have to buy it at lfs, or is it the kind you can pick up at walmart?

Just wrapping the colt to the rock with a rubberband might work. Sometimes it will slip out though. Never tried the superglue gel for colt, but have used it on other corals. Just plain old superglue gel is what I use. For future fragging, I have had success just placing a rock up against my existing colt and it will start to attatch in a few days. Then just cut away however much you want attatched to the new rock.

The colt I have is always expanding and contracting, I'm not sure how I can get it to lean up against another rock and attach. Is there a method to this? Do you place the base against the other rock, or one of the limbs?

Thanks

Yes super glue gel nothing special. You can get it at walmart. Make sure you get the gel it works better. You can even use it under water. I use it for everything..... Zoa,colt, mushroom, ric

I will try the gel... The toothpicks, thread etc. didn't work for me. The base kept tearing, maybe the flow in the tank, or the expanding and contracting of the colt.

I have best luck with the rock near the base of the colt. Just give it a few days and it should start to attatch if it is in contact.

When using the thread method you cannot tie it too tight to the rock or you will tear it for sure. What I do is make sure to run the needle through the coral a little higher up and then tie it firmly to the rock but not too tight. Then I place the newly cut coral in a lower flow area so the flow doesn't rip the coral off the rock.

The way I have done it is go to Michaels or hobby lobby and get some netting that looks like a wedding veil. I would put the frag on the rock and rubberband the netting around the frag. I eventually will connect to the rowck and you dont have to stick it or glue it. Once it is stuck which I would say takes a few weeks to make sure, you just take the rubberband off and the netting and you have a connected peice. I do the same with xenia. The only thing I glue is star polyps.
