not sure if it is still too cold for galveston picking
but I'd like to go sometime soon and see what can be caught
but i have no clue on where and what time of day to go
It would be fun to go with a group if anyone is up to it

We normally do an annual collecting trip. They've always been a blast to hang out down on the coast and catch critters. When should we do it this year?

Does the stuff you pick up have a good survival rate in your tanks? When I was down there a few years back i picked up 6 nice green clam shells for souvineers of my trip. They are in my aquarium and average around 5 inches long. On my Vancouver trip in 09 I brought back a floating plant. It was fine in a bucket in my back yard but when I put it in my tank it turned to mush. I just wanted to try it and plants feel no pain. I will not do that again.

During peak season it isn't uncommon for MARSHians to meet up and gather on an almost weekly - biweekly basis.

We have a wonderful MARSHian that hosts us as a club every summer at his home for our annual collecting trip and bbq.

If your interested in making the trek down to do some collecting, Chris85 is a great point of contact and reference. You will often find him out collecting himself. There is a thread "its almost that time of year again" that has chronicled our collecting adventures over the past few years and where many communicate their meet up plans.

As for quarterly trips, I'm not familiar enough with the habitat to know if off season collecting trips would be very fruitful...again Chris85 would be pretty knowledgeable in that area.

the collecting will get better as it warms up. Its a seasonal not a quarterly trek. If sargasum starts rolling
in it can become collector paradise. Unfortunately that has not been the case the last 2 years.
