i'd get a fresh clove, smash it up, mix it with some food and feed it to your fish. but don't add the actual chunks of garlic, just the juices.

you can also just squish it up and mix it in some water and just dump the water into the tank. again, don't dump in the actual chunks, just the juice.

or you can buy the kent marine garlic or other garlic products from a lfs.

Yup thats exactly what I do, but I get some of the
water from fish tank. And what ever feeding habit
I provide the fish I double up on. And boy even if I
see one spot, when the fish eat the soaked food
with garlic on it, the next day the ick spot is gone.

I use Kyolic garlic extract. It is concentrated garlic juice available in local health food stores and in some grocery health sections.

Garlic has an anecdotal reputation for curing/preventing ich. Many of us swear by it. Others scoff at the concept.

Personally...I've had great success with it.

Ick

Ick is like mini vampires   heck you can see um suck the blood
right out of our fish   na , does look like it though. though
it is a parasite, isn't that what vampires are   ahh who cares
garlic does work, and Mel was going to buy the extract, well what
kent marine sells and Quote: the LFS tenant said getting the gloves
at the store was the same as buying kent marine. But figured out
that the gloves at the store are much cheaper :D But Mel doesn't mean
as we all know the LFS tenant isn't always right.

Lloyd, I like the extract because it's concentrated. Something like 5x the strength of regular garlic.

It's inexpensive...about $10 for a 16 oz. bottle...and you only use drops at a time. Lasts forever.

As anything in reefing there are 100 opinions!

Mine... I have not had an ich outbreak in 7 years, I do not quarantine, and I feed Kent garlic soaked food EVERY day.

Just too for all new people who haven't heard of this, one thing that
does eliminate the impossibly of getting ick, is don't let your temp
get below 77 degrees. Ever time I saw ick it was because I manually
control my fans when MH is on. and when temp got below 77 degrees
was when I forgot to turn fans off at night, woke up and temp was 74
degrees, and two or three days later, started to see spots on fish.

I should also add! ...
I always soak it in freeze dried plankton!

This stuff is like a sponge!
I keep it in a cup for a week in the fridge sealed soaking in garlic juice.
Freeze dried foods will absorb it much better.
