Thank you electric co for giving my Generac a 30 min test this evening, definitely more comfortable about next week now.

I’ve had mine since the big freeze and it hasn’t had to come on once yet except for its routine exercising. I made “one call” to one call plumbing, electrical and air and they came out today and did a 2yr routine maintenance checkup. We cut off the power to the house just to test it and everything ran smooth. I keep hoping I’ll get to see it in action one day so I know it wasn’t a waste of money.

I have a genny but it is always a pain to deal with. The generacs are nice but always seem to need service. In a pinch, and if you don’t want to spend 8-16k on that, an easy solution I came across (think it was a convo here with @foos) is a high power inverter. Hook it up to your car battery and power the essentials like… the fish tank and freezer because that’s where I keep the fish food.

This is great for late nights when you don’t want to pull the generator out. I have a super cheap tank oxygenation set up - car battery, harbor freight inverter, air pump with a large air stone. 😊

If I need to plug in chiller/heater needs to be plugged to a larger inverter obviously.

That's also where the beer is. However, keep the beer cold isn't the issue in a winter power outage haha
