I was just checking out reefgeek.com to order some new 65k t5 bulbs. I noticed that the GE bulbs are half the price of the Giesemann. Is there really that much of a difference? I am on a really tight budget right now, but I don't want junk either.

Hi, dvs.
IMO, 65K is a pretty standard color rendering and does not require any special blending of phosphors. What drives up the cost of most fluorescent bulbs like the 12K, 14K, 21K, true actinics, etc. is the specialty blends of phosphors. For 65K bulbs, I'd use the GE's.

Good luck,
Steve

Okay, I was wondering what made them "high quality". Thanks for helping me out with that. When I replace the blues, I will go with giesemann.

I could never find the right length in non-aquarium bulbs but if I could I would use them. What I have read is that 6500k, and backing steve, is the standard temperature, if you will, for sunlight simulation.

The GE's are the right length.
