Been out of the reef tank hobby since 2011. Still been doing freshwater stuff. But going to start back small with a 60p (17 gallons) reef tank. The sump will actually be larger. Going to use a 20g long for the sump. Because of the sump size, I will be building my own stand. I will post progress pics along the way. More to come soon!

It is now running. 90l with a AI Prime light. DIY 20g Long Sump and Nyos skimmer. Just has some hermits and snails until I get through the ugly phase.

Let me know how you like that Xaqua return. Been looking at them but wanted to talk to someone with hands on first

Yes, that is the Xaqua return. I had a little problem with a leak when I first set it up. The leak was due to a small chip in the glass where the Xaqua o-ring seals. I drilled the holes in the glass from the inside out which left chips on the outside surface. Because the sealing o-ring on the Xaqua goes on the outside of the tank, the o-ring was over one of the chipped marks. Once I figured that out I just filled the chipped area with Silicone cement and the o-ring sealed fine. Other than that I really like the Xaqua.

Kinda a trades tip...when drilling glass put a lot of criss crossed tap of opposite side of glass you're drilling...it will prevent the chipping

Are you getting the pulsing waive? Have you ever used the random flow generator by vivid, i wonder how those compare?

Went to FJW which was my "goto" place about 12 years ago. I understand that overall, coral prices have gone up. I just wanted a couple of starter frags that would be easy to keep to get the tank started. But the Zoa prices were ridiculous. I bought a Zoa frag from the $30 tank because anything that looked decent was priced PER POLYP! I took the $30 zoa home and when it opened, it was not the one that I picked. So I went online to WWC to see if I could find one similar and found that I could get MUCH better corals for less. I used to really like Dennis because he was always helpful. I guess many years has hardened the man because he really could care less about anyone there.

He also recently reopened after a fire and lost all of his livestock....can't argue your experience while there or your feelings so just throwing that out there.

I’m wanting to get back into the hobby too, but I’m remembering how overwhelming it can be. Lol

Mostly to the wallet these days, but information and proven methods are a plenty!
