i just wanted to post up a little info i recently found out. it is very possible to remove even deep scratches from glass. I bout a 210 that i was going to use and it had some bad scratches in it. I found a company called "shine glass renewal" that charged only $100 to do the front panel of the tank that is 7' x 2'. he was almost done and about to start polishing when he cracked the glass due to the heat. however, he did pay me for the cost to replace the tank. it did leave some slight distortion but that is better than a deep scratch that holds algae. he had already polished one end of the tank and removed every single scratch that was in it. he spent about 4 hours doing it. for those that want to try this, he used a 7" angle grinder with sandpaper and a buffing wheel. at one point he was using 60 grit sandpaper and slowly worked his way up to 2000 grit and then the buffing wheel and a polishing compound i'm assuming that was cerium oxide. like i said, he spent about 4 hours doing it so had he not broken it, i'd say it was well worth the $100. I just wanted to share with those that have come across this issue and put a little more info out about it.

FYI, i used the money he sent to replace the tank to buy a starfire panel to put opn the front instead of a new tank. so i think i came out pretty well in the end.

This alone has me thinking, no thanks!
I'm glad he replaced your glass, but working on large tanks without the right tools can become a Pita.
good info though

yeah it can. it did get pretty hot, but the key is patience. take your time and let the glass cool off. he was also pressing really hard.

Yeah, that is one risk with trying to polish glass. Most people don't want to risk it, and I don't blame them. How do they cut glass anyway? They score a scratch in it and then snap it along the scratch.

I know Kyle has a source for starfire glass that he uses for the tanks he builds. Dont know if it is a local source, but he did get some several months back.

I'm glad he did right by you. Where are you getting your starfire panel from?
glass cages

Ok let us know how that turns out. I have tried to find it locally to no avail.
i picked up the glass and have it glued and set in place right now. gotta let it cure for 2 days. the glass came in to a shipping company at 59 and little york, i went to pick it up there. it was packaged well and had no issues. the starfire looks amazing next to the regular glass
