So I am wondering… my Po4 is normal (0.03) but I like to run GFO (like carbon) because it seems to helps clean more than just Po4. Do you guys run it just because or only to combat high Po4? Right now I am purposely running it in the same canister as carbon because higher flow rate makes it less efficient. Just curious.

I have some GFO always running in a dual canister with some carbon and some purigen (and filter floss packed in between it all to keep it in place). Some folks are diagnosing my tank problems as not enough nutrients and I'm inclined to agree so I guess... Don't do what I do?

My opinion is that GFO should only be used if you have out of control Po4 levels or a nuisance algae problem. A mature system should find equilibrium around the level your seeing unless the fish load is super high or over feeding is a problem.

I think trying either taking it off line and see what happens with your nutrients or increase the input of food/sources of nitrate and phosphate and see what happens. I'm more familiar with high import and high export so I can be liberal with feedings and additives

I just ran phos remover like when guylaga said, if saw more algae growth along with the range being out of what I was targeting. I haven't ran it since January with PO4 kept in range without it.
