I have a used tank that I bought which, after getting in house and looking at closer, has apparently been resealed. Pretty safe to assume it was done by a hobbyist as they have a large amount of extra silicone on the inside and didn't use tape or anything (sloppy). I don't care about the cosmetics as most of that will be hard to see once up and full of sand.

I am a little concerned about the integrity and wondered if someone with a lot of experience with resealing or used tanks could take a look? I am NW side- not too far from vintage, Louetta/Eldrige- lakewood forest area. The tank did have water when I picked it up. Main points of concern are:
  • the top has a eurobrace that used no silicone, just glass panels, would provide no structural value so if someone left that undone, did they know what they were doing at all?
  • some bubbling on both sides. They are small and interior to the glass (not touching either side), but a decent amount on one side
  • one side panel is inset the smallest amount, top and bottom, still full amount of glass to get the silicone, but a concern
  • other side the top is out the smallest amount and bottom is in the smallest amount so it wasn't perfectly aligned
Going to get the place that replaced my former tank with starphire to give a quote, but wanted to see if people with experience thought it was even needed.

Whats holding the glass panels on the eurobrace or is glass just literally sitting on top unfinished? I would say that it might be worth resealing correct. How big is the tank?

Hey Jason- 150g. The euro brace is caulked on one end, the pieces just are joined together so you don't get the integrity you would from a joined brace. I decided to go ahead and have Eric over at Ocean Aquatics reseal. Getting his opinion on how extensive to get- probably just an interior will snug it up since it did hold water. I used him for my 8 foot starphire front replacement and he did a good job.
Worth $200 for peace of mind.
