So I was thinking about my tank and I have a lot of un-used space on the back glass (or plastic if it's overflow). Since I have very few rocks I feel this may be a good utilization of space, especially since there's a lot of light in those spots at times.

So I came up with a little flat frag holder that's 3D Printed.

It'd sit against a flat surface like this:

I can angle it more or less of course with the 3d printer. The frag would be able to be removed as needed. Just not sure if I am willing to glue to glass / plastic.

Anyone with thoughts on it?

I’d say put a reef safe magnet in there and stick it on magnetic. There are also magnetic frag plugs

I like the idea...although it sounds risky. I would buy some from you even with proof of successful removal.

That was what I was thinking at first, but I'll say my experience with "reef-safe" (aka epoxy) magnets haven't been reef-safe at all. Every single one that I've bought thus far. Plus it'd add a fair amount of additional bulk for my sized glass.

On the over-flow it'd be easier since it wouldn't have to be as thick, but getting it to the right spot and what not may be difficult.

Yeah, I'm sure they can be removed. On the plastic/acrylic I would just be afraid of leaving some residue. The glass can be scraped off with a razor.

If you’re worried about the magnets not being reef safe buy a small frag rack off amazon that has good reviews. Then cut it and utilize the magnets out of it. You can probably make a cool little frag cup holder looking thing from the circle parts

Not strong enough in most cases. (At least for the cheap options) my glass is only 1/2" and they can't stay up. This ehoops one can't even stay up. I know the premium ones could work, but I'm not willing to spend $60 on a frag rack that costs $5 to make.

Unfortunately those have fallen apart on me too. (One of about five I tested). Wish they lasted. Could have been a fluke because everyone rates them well.

If you did magnets then you would need dual magnets, or a bar, to add stability as the coral got larger, assuming sps.

I wonder if super glue can be left on glass for a long time, be removed, and have no effect on the glass.

Have you ever tested Epoxy Coated Rare Earth Magnets? Maybe something like this?

You could even glue them to a home rack tray, then coat them several more times with epoxy just to be sure. That sure could make for a cheap DIY frag rack.

Those ones are horrible ... Probably the worst of the ones I tried.... But yeah I've tried a lot of epoxy coated magnets with all rusting eventually

I'd totally give it a try. I'd like to get something mounted on my back glass, zoas, encrusting coral, something maybe even a stick or 2.

Anyone seen the frag rings you glue to rock work and then a frag plug will sit inside? Good way to see if a frag is happy in an area of not, move it to another.

can’t did them. My search fu must be weak today.
